Mackie Mix Series Mix8 8-Channel Mixer Review

Mackie Mix Series Mix8 8-Channel Mixer
We found the Mackie Mix8 to be exactly what we would expect from one of the leaders in live music components. A very well built, low noise, compact mixer that does precisely what it was designed to do. There are 2 pre-amped microphone input channels with choice of either 1/4" or XLR inputs which should be enough for most home karaoke systems.

Microphone (Mono) Input Channels
There are two microphone channels that offer either a balanced XLR or a balanced/unbalanced 1/4" TRS input (both may not be used at the same time). The XLR input will provide 48V power for condenser microphones. These channels offer Gain, High, Mid, and Low EQ, Pan, AUX, and Volume Level adjustment knobs.

Stereo Line Inputs
Each of the two stereo channels has two balanced line level inputs on 1/4" jacks for left and right channels. If only the jack marked L (left) is used, the channel operates in mono. The stereo channels are designed to handle typical line level signals. Both inputs will also accept unbalanced jacks. These channels offer High, Mid, and Low EQ, Balance, AUX, and Volume Level adjustment knobs.

TAPE Input and Output
The RCA inputs are used for connecting an external audio source such as a CD player, karaoke machine, or laptop. The RCA outputs are wired in parallel with the Main Out are commonly used to connect to a recorder.

CR (Control Room) Outs
These TRS 1/4" balanced/unbalanced outputs allow you to listen to something other than the main mix. These outputs are often used to run a pair of powered studio monitors in a control room or a headphone distribution amplifier. The volume is adjustable with the CR/Phones knob.

AUX Return
This is where you connect the outputs of your parallel effects devices. They can also be used as an extra pair of stereo line inputs. The circuits will handle stereo or mono, balanced or unbalanced signals. They can be used with just about any pro or semipro effects device on the market.

Pros:
Phantom power for condenser mics. Two XLR inputs. Quiet output signal. Well constructed. Very reasonably priced.

Cons:
No power switch. No balanced XLR main outs. No on-board effects.
