Karaoke Microphone Reviews

The microphones most used for karaoke are the handheld dynamic variety. These can be either wired or wireless models. The vast majority of these microphones will be unidirectional, with a cardioid pickup pattern, which basically means that they pick up sound that is directly in front of them. This helps eliminate background noise and feedback.

With wireless microphones you will also often find features like multiple channels and "true diversity". The channels are designated frequency ranges that allow for multiple wireless microphones to be used in the same location without interfering with each other. With a true diversity system, the receiver has independent sections, each having its own antenna that are spaced apart. The receivers are constantly monitored and the one with the strongest signal is selected. This helps prevent dropouts that can occur in some situations.

You will also find that wireless microphones are either UHF or VHF frequency types, although lately it seems the majority are leaning toward UHF. The advantages of UHF are that it has a broader frequency spectrum which reduces the odds of interference and that it is slightly less susceptible to interference from electrical equipment. Unless you're in a area that has heavy radio traffic the VHF variety will usually work just fine.

AKG D5 Vocal Dynamic Microphone
AKG D5 Vocal Dynamic Microphone

AKG made the first microphone diaphragm ever whose thickness varies across its diameter. The new Laminated Varimotion diaphragm deep-drawing process allows the diaphragm itself to be fine-tuned with no extra tuning resonators, leading to a quantum leap in audio performance. The dual shock mount eliminates any kind of mechanical noise for trouble-free live use. The audience will hear nothing but the pristine sound of your voice!
